Things to do in Huntsville, Alabama this weekend 9/3/10-9/6/10!

Well, the end of Summer and with that comes the last weekend for many things to do in Huntsville, Alabama.

If you are looking for some fun this long weekend, keep these things in mind:

 Now thru Sept. 6, 2010: Star Wars Exhibit

Admission charged. 9 AM-9 PM Sun.-Thurs. & Fri.-Sat. 9 AM-11 PM at USSRC, One Tranquility Base Huntsville. Enjoy that galaxy far, far away, where science meets imagination, along with original costumes & props from the six movies. The exhibition includes a Jedi Experience camp (for kids & adults) as well as IMAX & Star Wars related films that focus on the science behind creator George Lucas's fantasy worlds. Now thru Sept. 6, 2010: "Space: A Journey To Our Future

Admission charged. Mon.-Thurs. 9 AM-7 PM, Fri.-Sat. 9 AM-9 PM & Sun. 11 AM-7 PM at Sci-Quest Science Center, 102-D Wynn Drive Huntsville.  Through hands-on interactive displays & modules, visitors can design their own trip to Mars.  A 360-degree "Future Theatre" lets visitors look into the future of exploration & deep into space.  The exhibit includes artifacts from the past & present space programs including space suits, a lunar rover tire, a camera, early fuel cells & space shuttle tiles.  For more info, call  (256) 837-0606.

Now thru Sept. 6, 2010: Point Mallard Aquatic Center (Decatur)

Fee for participants only. 10 a.m.-9 p.m. at Point Mallard Park--Aquatic Center with water features opened for the summer. For more info, call 800-524-6181.

Now thru September 30, 2010: Tremendous Treehouses

The Huntsville Botanical Garden, Bob Wallace Ave, proudly brings back (by popular demand!) Tremendous Treehouses as its 2010 Spring/Summer Exhibit. Play, climb and swing your way through fun, interactive hand-crafted tree houses for kids of all ages. Explore a real log cabin in "Knotty Place," get a feel for the old days at "Trading Post" or swing and slide until your heart's content at "Relaxation Station." Now thru November 30, 2010--Harmony Park Safari

10 AM-Sundown at 431 Cloud's Huntsville. Admission charged. Enjoy drive-through observation & feeding of free ranging rare & endangered animals. Your self-guided tour also includes reptiles & amphibians from around the world, as well as various species of fowl. For more info, call (877) 726-4625.

Now Thru December 19, 2010: Flying Monkey's Artist Market

Free. noon- 4 p.m. Huntsville Artist Market at Flying Monkey at Lowe Mill, 2211 Seminole Dr. Free indoor artist booths/spaces for the sales and promotion of local artwork. For more information, call 256-479-7863.

September 2-6, 2010: Northeast Alabama State Fair

Admission charged.  Thurs.-Fri. 6-11 PM (Fri. Midnight Madness 11 PM-1 AM) Sat.-Sun. 2-11 PM & Mon. 2-9 PM at John Hunt Park, on the grounds of the old airport Huntsville.  The Northeast Alabama State Fair has the largest midway in northeast Alabama, concessions & exhibits.  For more info, call (256) 883-5252.

September 3-5, 2010: Curious George

Admission charged. Fri. 7 PM, Sat. 11 AM & 3 PM & Sun. 1 & 5 PM at VBC Arena, 700 Monroe Street. For more info, call 256) 533-1953.

September 3-6, 2010: Huntsville Stars v. Mobile

Admission charged.  Fri. 7 PM, Sat. 6 PM & Sun.-Mon. 1 PM at Joe Davis Stadium, 3125 Leeman Ferry Road Huntsville.  Fireworks after the game. Sat. For more info, call (256) 882-2562.

Okay, I'll take the aquatic center, the safari and the flying monkey (of course!). Sounds like a fun weekend in store for Huntsville, AL.
