In Rememberance....

Nine years ago in just a few hours, America...no, the world, had one of the most horrific acts committed by crazy radicals. I remember the day like it was just yesterday-every moment. My husband is a Fire Fighter here in Huntsville and was on shift that day. He left at 7:00am. I had my two little baby boys (ages 1 and 3) home with me and I was 6 months pregnant. My twin sister called me up and told me that a plane hit a high rise in New York and to turn on the TV. I did and as I was watching-only thinking that a small plane hit-I see another plane in the air going towards the second tower. My heart sank, I was sick to my stomach. I called my sister, and we both screamed on the phone to each other as we watched in horror as that second plane slammed into the tower. My God, how many people were on that plane? How many people were in the path of that plane? I was panicking as the news casters were trying to keep track of ALL the planes that were missing. I was trying to keep calm but just sent the kids into their room to watch a video. They knew something was wrong-why was Mommy crying? My husband called me to make sure I was okay and that he didn't know what was going on. He was on lock down at the fire station. I did not want to leave the "safety" of my home. I heard on the news that a few more planes were missing and one was heading towards Pennsylvania...OMGosh, my older sister lives in Pittsburgh? I was trying to call her but all line were busy. Finally, I got through to her. She was crying too. One plane had it the Pentagon, another went down in a field in Pennsylvania. All those lives just gone. How scared the passengers must have been. While on the phone for the 100th time with my husband he was telling me that those towers are going to come down. They NEED to get those Fire Fighters out of there. He was frantic-how could they not see that it was going to come down!?!? I just kept telling him that no, they will be okay. They weren't and he was right. All those brave men and women who must have known...sensed that this was not going to end well.

I stayed up all night glued to the TV just hoping that they would find the thousands of people missing but knowing in my heart that they were gone. My kids slept with me that night just because I felt that life could be gone in an instant and I was go glad just to be able to hold them. My Husband, Johnnie, was working all night and a busy night he had! He too was up all night. There really is no more to say except.....

On this day I will say a prayer for ALL those who have died on that day, all those who had to live without a loved one because of that day and all those who as still suffering because of that day. I pray for all the Fire Fighters, Police Officers and First Responders. I pray for America and all other Countries. I pray for our Children and for peace.

The battle for freedom continues...

Amen!

But why is that 9 years later we are so cool to the idea of a Mosque so close to the ground zero?

Did we forget?

Don't we now feel the pain?

Does the battle really continue?

Diane:  Thank you for your post.  As I was reading I became so emotional and it took me back to that day.  All our lives have changed forever and we are all so aware that life is so fragile.
